The Great Migration : 3.8 billion years of C circulation through Earth

Résumé : In the anthropocene, the carbon cycle has become a crucial societal concern. Yet, we are forced to recognize that much remains to be understood about its functioning. I will discuss recent advances in understanding the biological and geological processes that control the evolution of the organic carbon cycle on Earth. I will show how the leak of organic carbon between the surface, the lithosphere and the mantle of our planet may have controlled the fluctuations in atmospheric oxygen on our planet since ca. 3.8 billion years.
